As Minister for Natural Resources
and Cooperative Development in the first government that included
African Cabinet Ministers, prior to the attainment of Tanganyika's
independence in 1961, I was also accountable for the portfolio of
Agriculture. Among my most gratifying
accomplishments was the
establishment of the cooperative union of Tanganyika (CUT), which
included all major Cooperative Unions in the country. During this
tenure of office I was instrumental in the establishment of the
Tanganyika Cooperative Bank as well as the Cooperative College in
the Township of Moshi....... ....... Cont.

Speech - May 08, 1955
"We are under developed because we do not get opportunities for higher education. Now nearly 3,000 people are running the government. So if we educate
more than 3,000
people wont be able to run the government too? This can be
accomplished in a very short period. The Gold Coast is very
good example.
What is needed is basic education, skills
and specialization can
come later. A good practical example is
baby who when he falls down learns the technique which allows
him to be stable thereon
that is how other nations began. Education is the key for
everything so let us sacrifice everything for education. The bait
for wealth is education.
